Meet Yan Turnquest, Captain of Jus 1 Danz

Who Is Yan Turnquest?

Yan was born and raised on Long Island, Bahamas. As a native to the island, Yan is the best person to show you how to get the most out of your Bahamas vacation. Yan was a commercial fisherman for 35+ years and then started his own charter business about 5 years ago after looking for something new that would also give him more of an opportunity to share the island with people around the world. It is also a way to help develop the island into a place where his neighbors and friends who also live here have the ability to stay and build a life for future generations.

How Did Yan Decide To Start a Charter Fishing & Tours Business?

Necessity is the mother of all inventions – or business ventures. We added that last part :). One night, after brainstorming with a friend, Yan realized he could do something with his knowledge and love of the sea so he could both share it with others and do something that would allow him and others on the island to have long term income.

How Did He Get Started?

Yan started with learning about what he didn’t already know and took a tourism course. He then decided on the name Jus1Danz because it tells the epic story of his relationship with the love of his life. If you don’t believe in fate, ask Yan to tell you the story. This long-lasting love helped build his tourism business.

Meet the Team

You’ll get amazing hospitality and action packed excursions with Jus 1 Danz. Yan and the other captains are licensed to operate boat tours for a magical experience that is not to be missed. Yan is mentoring Lindo and Tristan and teaching them to captain their own tours. Mateo is a Captain and First Mate who will make sure you have the best day ever. Book a full day of exploring, snorkeling, pig viewing, visiting Sandy Cay and finish it all with some very bountiful reef fishing. We have 4 boats and can run 2 tours at a time. Our boats can carry 2-30 people.

This was our first time chartering with Yan but will not be the last. You will not meet a nicer more honest person and he’s a great fishing guide too! Despite getting a little seasick, my husband and I had the best day out with Yan! We caugh mahi, mackerel, snapper and of course some barracuda.

Hands down one of the best charter fishing trips we have ever taken, so much so we have now gone twice with Yan. The first trip we booked with Yan was in December 2020 for a family fishing trip with the kids for Wahoo and the second trip was in April 2021 for an adult only Mahi trip. The booking process was smooth with fantastic customer service. When we arrived at the boat dock we were welcomed immediately onto the boat and given a brief safety briefing. Yan's boat was clean, well equipped with fishing gear, life vests, drinks, and snacks.  As we were headed out to the open water to start fishing we were given lots of information about Long Island and the general area along with them pointing out all kinds of sea life to us. The fishing was great and Yan was fantastic at keeping us informed on what to watch for and how to reel the fish in once they hit our lines.  Our son reeled in a Wahoo in December, it was fun to see our son so excited but just as fun to see how excited Yan was that h our son was reeling one in. Our second trip in April we fished for Mahi and yet again we were nothing but impressed with the whole process from booking to fishing. Easter Sunday afternoon a few friends and family joined up for a boat trip with Yan. The weather was a little windy but we could not ask for a better experience. The ride was smooth, the waters were phenomenal. We did some sightseeing along the southern shores and some fishing. Captain Yan and April gave the kids a great time. With the fishing.
The waters off the southern coast of Long Island are like no other, the different shades of blues and greens flowing together are a must see experience and it’s even better when you can do it with the expert snd pleasant guidance of a born and bred Long Island boat captain. We just finished an action packed fishing excursion on the Jus 1 Danz, and it was Great! The boat was clean and well equipped, snacks were provided, the music was lovely, the hospitality even better, but most of all, the fish were plentiful.

We did two tours with Yan and Apri. Each time they went above and beyond to anticipate my needs from making sure there was bait on my line so I could continuously fish (yup we catch 35 snappers in just one spot) and ice and water on hand to quench my thirst

They made me feel extremely safe with COVID protocols in place and safety drills in case something could go wrong

Their pontoon boat tour was fab for a girls day out on the water. Easy access to get on and off the boat. There was plenty dancing and their excellent knowledge of the sea life around made the day one to remember.

We were so lucky to be able to spend a day out on the beautiful Caribbean Sea with Captain Yan when we were in Long Island, Bahamas in February. We had so much fun and we’re lucky to catch some fish that we fried over an open fire. The hospitality, music and friends that we were able to spend this time with was amazing.
